Mechanics

If you are anything like me, I tend to overestimate my ability to get something done or to understand how something should be done. Take for example, working on a car. I know there is a problem. The car is not working (duh!). I pop the hood, grab my tool box and begin to work away, manly sweat and all. About half way through whatever I think I am doing, I stop and get that "feeling." You know the one, where you know this is way more "complicated" than you thought, that you need to call someone to come and help, the feeling of needing an "expert." You are "in over your head."

Just when you think you have God's love figured out for you, think again.  You wanted something that you could explain and follow the directions and steps and "wow, it's all there!" You wanted a tiny little God that can be explained by our little finite brains. You did not get one and neither did I. But what we got was better. As a father I understand something of love in loving my wife and kids but God's love for you is "beyond knowledge." Have a look:

"to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  (Ephesians 3:19)

This is God's love for you. Today. Right now. Even when you blow it. Lift up your head. He is looking for you when you "get that feeling."

Are You Filthy?

Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel. Zech 3:3   The Hebrew word translated filthy is "the strongest expression in the Hebrew language for filth of the most vile and loathsome character." (Feinberg, cited in Barker)  Have you ever felt "filthy" before the Lord? I mean just downright disgusting? Like you could not go any lower? You said you would never do ______________ again and you just did it again? Have you ever felt like it is only a matter of time until the hammer of God's justice falls on you?
